J. Jpn. Bronchoesophagol. Soc., 73 : 216─221, 2022Liposarcoma of the hypopharynx is extremely rare. The cardinal symptoms of liposarcoma of the hypopharynx are slowly progressive dysphagia and body weight loss. Here we report a case of liposarcoma of the hypopharynx. A 70-year-old male presenting with dysphagia and body weight loss came to our hospital. Initially, although there were no unusual findings in the hypo-pharynx or larynx, CT and MRI imagings revealed a fat-density intra-esophageal mass. Upper gas-trointestinal endoscopy showed a pedunculated tumor in the left piriform sinus, which was able to be exteriorized via the mouth. The tumor was then resected at its hypopharyngeal insertion pedi-cle. The diagnosis of a well-differentiated liposarcoma was made based on the histopathology of the surgical specimen. At 24 months after the operation, local recurrence was found by fiberscopic examination and CT scan. We resected the tumor again. Histological examination pointed to the identical conclusion. Our patient has been followed up for 15 months with no signs of recurrence after the second resection. Well-differentiated liposarcoma is the most common form of liposarco-ma, but is only exceptionally reported in the hypopharynx. Imaging findings are nonspecific. Only histological examination can distinguish liposarcoma from other benign esophageal tumors. Stan-dard treatment is complete resection, and long-term follow-up is essential in order to promptly de-tect local recurrence.liposarcomaAuris Nasus Larynx 37(3):347─351, 2010.11) 73(3),2022Well-differentiated Liposarcoma of the Hypopharynx1)Gunma University Hospital, GunmaHiromasa Kawasaki, M.D.1), Masato Shino, M.D., Ph.D.1), and Kazuaki Chikamatsu, M.D., Ph.D.1)
